The European Union might “act quickly and firmly” against what it deems “unjustified” visa bans issued by the United States against five Europeans working on combating online hate and misinformation, an EU official has said.

EU Officials Condemn US Move as ‘Intimidation’

European leaders such as Emmanuel Macron accused Washington of “coercion and intimidation”, after the travel bans targeted figures who have been central to efforts to enact laws governing US-based technology firms.

“For too long, ideologues in Europe have spearheaded organised efforts to pressure US companies to punish US perspectives they disagree with,” stated the US secretary of state online. “The current administration will not stand for these egregious acts of censorship beyond its borders.”

Nations including Germany, Spain, and the UK, alongside numerous EU representatives supported France in condemning the move.
